By Chuck Hawks Rem. Illustration courtesy of Remington Arms Co. The Remington Model series is the all-time best selling line of bolt action sporting rifles in the world. They were an immediate hit when introduced in and have never looked back. The Model has also become the favored action of many custom rifle builders. The Model action was designed for ease of manufacture, given the manufacturing technology of the early ‘s, and uses a round action machined from bar stock, a plunger ejector in the bolt face and a sort of circlip in the bolt face that snaps over the rim of a chambered cartridge to extract the fired brass. The bolt face is recessed to enclose the base of the cartridge, which is also surrounded by the chamber end of the barrel and the front receiver ring. The cartridge head is thus circled by three rings of steel, much as with the Weatherby Mark V action, and this fact was not overlooked by the Remington advertising department. Traditionalists considered these cost cutting innovations “cheap,” but the customers responded in droves to the undeniable good looks of the Model ADL and BDL rifles themselves. They were among the best looking hunting rifles ever introduced and the stock design handled recoil very well, which made them pleasant to shoot.
Also some letters were left out if there was a chance of misidentifying a date. Also they jockeyed year letters to a new starting point in If you find marks on the underside of the barrel, they will more than likely be fitters or assembly marks, which mean nothing as to dating the firearm. To find general manufacturing dates it may be best to go to the Blue Book of Gun Values, which does give manufacturing dates of most models. An issue that people need to be aware of, is that many Remington firearms such as the series of shotguns can have their barrels easily changed or replaced.

Now in its 50th year of uninterrupted production, with sales exceeding 5 million rifles, Remington’s American-made beauty is the world’s most prolific bolt-action centerfire of all time. It has been chambered for nearly 50 different cartridges and, despite five decades of rifle innovation, its strong yet rather simple 2-lug, rotating bolt remains a go-to choice of custom rifle makers.
The Model has contributed to our enjoyment afield, our national defense and practically everything in between. So, how did it become history’s best-selling bolt-action rifle? Let’s take a look at some of the ‘s key evolutions as we celebrate its golden anniversary. Plamen Petkov – Models and The ‘s story begins in post-war America with the introduction of Remington models long-action and short-action. Governments are routinely overthrown for control of their natural resources. United Fruit and BP are among those who have had governments toppled for their bottom line. Throughout history, regime change often has ulterior motives — particularly when it comes to control of natural resources. The Invasion era, during which American armed forces overthrew the governments of Afghanistan, Grenada, Iraq and Panama. One of the most infamous and drawn out instances of this resource-focused regime change began in with the government of Honduras.
The Honduran government gave tax exemptions along with plots of land to foreign corporations in order to expand their mining and agriculture industries. Some native Hondurans were able to exploit these Liberal economic policies to their benefit, but the vast majority of the allowances actually went to American corporations which had the capital on hand to purchase the land and quickly develop it. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street.
Tweet There have been reports of accidental discharges from Remington Model firearms over the years. Enough that many firearms experts clearly warned that the rifles were not drop safe and should not be stored loaded. However, Remington never made a move to remedy the issue until now. According to a release on the Remington website, they are now recalling certain Remington and Model 7 rifles that were manufactured between May and April with X Mark Pro triggers. Remington’s Manufacturing Date Codes Posted: Sat Dec 11, 6: Mon May 19, 8: Williamsburg, Virginia All of the above is true, and as noted with shotguns the serial number is a real key in determining if the barrel even could be original. A lot of people don’t realize just how prevalent barrel swapping is, but just as an example I have 5 Remington shotguns and 10 barrels, and I only have the one choke tubed barrel for the I know which barrel was original with what, but depending on how they are assembled when I die, I wouldn’t place a lot of bets on how some of them get sold And, Remington’s friendly “call them and they will tell you when it was made” service is highly unreliable in my opinion.
I know of three flat out wrong answers they have given out, and they say one of my guns doesn’t even exist – a 5 digit Model They wanted me to send it to them. I offered a picture, but they wanted to see the gun. I didn’t have the heart to tell them I once owned a 4 digit one. I do not trust Remington’s dating service accuracy. If they were Match.

Making a Remington Action? Hey guys, I’d like to make a Remington action “from scratch”. The point of this project is to learn about gunsmithing, and eventually end up with a rifle that I can display, and maybe take to a range once. I understand that if I wanted a rifle fast, it would be both cheaper and easier to just go out to a gun store and select a rifle.

Thu Oct 11, Fri Sep 12, 9: Mine are all old ones, because that’s the baragains I’ve found. But I’ve seen, handled, and shot the newer ones, and I’m of the opinion that new ones have better wood, checkering definitely better checkering , fit, polish, and finish than the old ones, but that’s comparing the old ones which were sold by the millions at the lowest price they could with the new ones that I don’t think are sold in nearly so great numbers.
The new ones are pricey guns, and Remington puts the shine to them to justify the price. This discussion doesn’t cover the newer matte finished guns. We are only comparing older shiny, pretty ‘s with newer shiny, pretty ‘s.

The rifle was first manufactured in the early s with many of those rifles still in use today and many available in used gun shops across the U. Sep 27, · Remington Barrel Removal – my experience I’ve been studying up on building a long range Rem in the good old 7mm Rem Mag. I found a great deal on a mag that looks to have been stuffed behind the seat of a pickup truck for a few years. 24″ stainless barrel with sights that had been blued (somehow) from the factory.
Remington sells so many different models, you are certain to find one you like for your price range. All are accurate enough for. The more you pay for a Rem , the more accurate it is likely to be. The Tikka T3 can be expected to be about as accurate as any over the counter rifle you could buy not custom. The T3 will be lighter than most Rem models.
If you are humping the rifle over the mountains a lot, you might appreciate the lighter weight. Many folks prefer the box magazine on the Tikka.
