Dancing With The Stars is officially kicked into gear this season with a new array of celebrities competing to knock our socks off with their hidden talents. This is the 9th season of Dancing With The Stars, premiering on the 21st of September, and it’s still going strong. Dancing With The Stars was originally a British concept as several of our shows are, like American Idol, America’s Got Talent and The Office. Since then, the British Strictly Come Dancing has been licensed internationally to over 30 countries.

This season’s lineup: Aaron Carter is a singer and the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. Natalie Coughlin is an Olympic gold medal swimmer. Mark Dacascos is the chairman of Iron Chef on the Food Network. Tom DeLay is a former Republican Congressional leader. Macy Gray is a famous singer. Ashley Hamilton is the son of George Hamilton and the ex-husband of Shannen Dogherty. Melissa Joan Hart is an actress best known for her role as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Kathy Ireland is a fashion designer and former supermodel. Michael Irvin is a football player, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys. Joanna Krupa is a model who was on ABC’s The Superstars. Chuck Lidell is a legend in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Debi Mazar is an actress who can currently be seen on Entourage. Mya is a Grammy award winning singer, famous for her hit single “My Love is Like…Wo.” Kelly Osbourne is the daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and famous for starring on their reality TV show, The Osbournes. Donny Osmond is a singer and former teen idol, famously from being a member of the Osmonds. Lastly, Louis Vito is a professional U.S. snowboarder who is one of the favorites for the U.S. snowboarding Olympic team in 2010.

Dancing With The Stars obviously benefits from its star power—everyone’s interested in watching celebrities, who by nature are constantly in the public eye. But some of the spectators can’t help but wonder whether contestants’ areas of celebrity affect their chances. It’s possible that a contestant famous for activities involving movement, such as sports, might have an advantage over a contestant involved in politics or cooking. In response, others might say that everyone still has a fairly equal chance, being paired with a random partner and given the same amount of time to practice dance routines. And Dancing With The Stars is a reality TV show after all, and entertainment is just as important, if not more important, than talent and dancing prowess.
