Privacy Screens
Living in a small place with a lot of people can be difficult, particularly if you have to run a business out of your home. That is why I make such extensive use of privacy screens. Room dividers have been a part of my life since I was very young. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to bicker constantly. We had to share a room together, and neither of us was the most agreeable person to live with. One day, my mom couldn't take it anymore. She got us a privacy screen and put it right down the center of the room. She thought that we would hate it and come to see the error of our ways, but we didn't. Instead, we got used to it very quickly. It made the fighting stop, as a matter of fact. We each felt like we had our own private space, which was all either of us really wanted. Privacy screens have more uses than just dividing territory between pugnacious siblings, however. Recently, I have begun to operate a small massage business out of my house. People in my home know not to disturb me during sessions, but even so it can be pretty difficult. Our downstairs has only two rooms, both of which are relatively small. I don't want to kick everyone out of the downstairs whenever I have a client, so instead I use a privacy screen. It is made out of bamboo, and provides shelter without completely closing off the room. Some privacy screens are too insubstantial to give you any true privacy, but this one isn't. It means that I don't have to do major renovation work in the house and I don't have to build a new wall in order to conduct my business. Sometimes I make more creative uses of the privacy screens. We like to have small house plays and performances, and even have a portable stage set up for that purpose. We can move the portable privacy screens around to set up a backstage so that people can put on new costumes or prepare props out of the view of their housemates. We even have some outdoor screens that we use when we are having picnics. They cut down on some light and wind without totally eliminating the breeze. They are pretty similar to the screens that people use when playing tennis outdoors, except not quite as impressive or permanent.
