Eventualities when you move abroad
Be prepared for the worst. Many countries have high rates of road casualties. Your own familiarity with the roads of your home country may make you more liable to have an accident in this new country. You will have to get used to people driving on the opposite side of the road than you are used to, or any side of the road, for that matter. There may well be different rules about road crossings. A stay in hospital in a strange country, where you do not know the language and are not sure what you are being treated with, can be a very frightening ordeal. Get in contact with your office and home. Make sure that, if there are real dangers to your well-being, that you have the option of being evacuated to your home country. It is a really good idea to check this out before you leave your home country and probably before you accept the job. Remember to make sure that your medical insurers are always fully aware of your case and have authorized your treatment.
