Several New York seafood restaurants have such a reputation and usually have their signature dishes and individual styles.

Aquagrill is located in SoHo and is a smart establishment, with crisp white table linen. Diners can choose a tasty appetizer, including Octopus Salad, and Atlantic or Pacific Coast Oysters. The main course menu offers sea scallops, crab polenta, and Grilled Salmon with a Falafel Crust. There is also a selection of rich desserts. The list of New York seafood restaurants includes cuisine from overseas. Le Bernardin is a French restaurant on 51st Street and has a décor influenced by luxury ocean liners. Maritime paintings line the walls. The menu has Kobe Beef, Blue Fin Tuna and White Tuna, a cheese course and chocolate desserts.

Entrees include halibut and crab and there is an extensive wine list and a sake (rice wine) selection.

The Pearl Oyster Bar on Cornelia Street is a popular New York Seafood restaurant for families. Dishes include Lobster Rolls, Clam Chowder, and Fried Clams. Oceana on East 54th Street is another New York seafood restaurant, resembling the cabin of a ship. Highlights include the Taro Wrapped Pompano and the Arctic Char.

Esca on West 43rd Street is the place for Southern Italian cooking. A stone tiled floor and lots of plants greet customers. Favorite dishes are Grilled Octopus and Crab Risotto. The Hudson River Café on West 133rd Street has indoor and outdoor tables and an outdoor bar. In addition to Maine Lobster Roll and Seafood Paella, there are steak and lamb dishes. One of the most ordered puddings is Guava Bread Pudding. The café specializes in cocktails. Live music is played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and during Sunday Brunch.

Estiatorio Milos on West 55th Street serves traditional Greek dishes. This New York seafood restaurant brings a bit of the sunny Mediterranean with Char Grilled Octopus, Fried Eggplant and Baklava to finish. For Japanese cuisine, the choice is the Lure Fish Bar on Mercer Street. Its décor is a maritime theme and there is a Raw Bar serving sushi. The menu includes lobster, Arctic Char and calamari with sake available too. Desserts are hearty, including Warm Chocolate Cake and Apple Crumble.
